Epithalon (also written Epitalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG), investigated for its relationship with telomerase activity, telomere biology and cellular processes associated with ageing. It emerged from the Khavinson peptide bioregulator research programme, which investigated short synthetic peptides associated with tissue regulation, cellular signalling and age-related biological processes. Published cell-culture studies have reported changes in telomerase expression and telomere length following experimental exposure. Epithalon and Epithalamin (a related pineal extract-derived preparation) are not chemically identical — findings from one cannot automatically be attributed to the other. FAB Research supplies Epithalon in a 50mg pre-filled metered research pen for scientific investigation.
Sequence AEDG
The complete molecular mechanism of Epithalon has not been conclusively characterised. A study published in 2003 investigated the compound in telomerase-negative human fetal fibroblast cultures and reported induction of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) expression, increased telomerase enzymatic activity and telomere elongation. A subsequent 2004 study reported telomere elongation and approximately ten additional cell passages compared with untreated controls. Additional proposed mechanisms include interactions with pineal-associated circadian signalling and possible gene-regulatory activity through direct DNA or chromatin interaction, though a definitively established receptor or mechanism has not been identified.
Epithalon's evidence base is predominantly preclinical, centred on cell-culture and animal experiments originating from the Khavinson programme. Key published findings include reported telomerase activity changes in fibroblast cultures and circadian-associated observations. Human evidence is extremely limited — the existing literature does not establish that Epithalon extends human lifespan, reverses ageing or prevents age-related disease. Researchers should note that Epithalamin (a complex extract-derived preparation) and synthetic Epithalon are chemically distinct, and findings from one should not be extrapolated to the other.
- 5 mg per application (one metered dose)
- 10 doses per pen (50 mg total)
- Synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG), from the Khavinson peptide bioregulator programme
- Pre-filled sterile solution — no reconstitution step required
Storage: Store refrigerated at 2–8 °C in the original sealed box. Do not freeze. Protect from light.
- For in-vitro laboratory and preclinical research only — not for human or animal administration
- Evidence base largely from Khavinson programme — independent peer-reviewed replication is limited; interpret findings accordingly
- Epithalon (synthetic AEDG tetrapeptide) and Epithalamin (natural pineal extract-derived preparation) are chemically distinct — findings from one should not be attributed to the other
- Proposed telomerase-activating mechanism: 2003 cell-culture study (TERT induction) is the primary mechanistic publication; findings have not been extensively independently replicated
- Very limited independent human safety data
- Published Khavinson programme studies: generally well tolerated in reported protocols
- No established adverse effect profile in peer-reviewed independent clinical trials
- Cell-culture concentrations studied in mechanistic research do not directly translate to in-vivo safety conclusions
Effects listed are observations from published research literature and are not predictions for any specific use. All FAB Research products are for in-vitro laboratory research — not for human or animal administration.
