Selank is a synthetic analogue of the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin, extended with Pro-Gly-Pro for enzymatic stability. It is used in vitro to study GABAergic receptor modulation, enkephalin-degrading enzyme inhibition and cytokine expression in immune-cell cultures.

Sequence TKPRPGP

Selank comprises the immunomodulatory tuftsin tetrapeptide sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg extended at the C-terminus with Pro-Gly-Pro to substantially improve enzymatic stability and extend degradation half-life relative to the parent peptide. Research characterises several mechanistic pathways. GABAergic modulation: a published study reported concentration-dependent allosteric effects on GABA-A receptor binding in rat brain membrane preparations, proposed as a candidate mechanism for stress-related biological activity. Monoamine-associated gene expression: experimental investigations documented changes in gene expression associated with serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline metabolism. BDNF effects: published work in animal models reported changes in neurotrophic factor expression in hippocampal regions. Neuroimmune activity: consistent with the tuftsin parent sequence, research documents interleukin-6 modulation and effects on T-helper cell balance. Enkephalinase inhibition — reducing breakdown of endogenous enkephalins — has been proposed as an additional pathway in the published literature.

A substantial literature originating predominantly from Russian research institutions, with limited independent international replication. GABAergic receptor research: experimental binding study documenting allosteric modulation with proposed anxiolytic-relevant mechanism. Anxiolytic research: Russian clinical and preclinical studies on anxiety endpoints, including comparisons with established medications; some trials reported favourable outcome measures with the caveat that methodological reporting varied and populations were specific. Immune modulation: research on interleukin expression and T-helper cell balance reflecting tuftsin-derived immunological activity. Monoamine and BDNF research: gene-expression and neurotrophic investigations in preclinical models. Enzyme inhibition: enkephalinase inhibition characterised as a potential mechanism supporting endogenous opioid availability. Replication context: Selank has been granted registration in Russia and the Ukraine for some indications; the evidence base for clinical conclusions in other jurisdictions is limited by the concentration of research within a single national research tradition.

  • 3 mg per application (one metered dose)
  • 10 doses per pen (30 mg total)
  • Tuftsin analogue heptapeptide with Pro-Gly-Pro stabilisation (sequence: TKPRPGP)
  • Pre-filled sterile solution — no reconstitution step required

Storage: Store refrigerated at 2–8 °C in the original sealed box. Do not freeze. Protect from light.

  • For in-vitro laboratory and preclinical research only — not for human or animal administration
  • Evidence base primarily from Russian clinical research — limited independent peer-reviewed replication
  • GABAergic receptor modulation and enkephalinase inhibition are the established mechanistic research endpoints; cytokine expression studies provide the immune-angle
  • Note: standard published research route is intranasal; pen format pharmacokinetics may differ from published intranasal study data

  • Russian clinical data: generally well tolerated; mild sedation possible
  • No significant adverse events documented in Russian clinical programme publications
  • Limited independent adverse effect profile — Russian programme reports good tolerability across studied doses and durations
  • Independent peer-reviewed safety characterisation is absent

Effects listed are observations from published research literature and are not predictions for any specific use. All FAB Research products are for in-vitro laboratory research — not for human or animal administration.
